La Chapelle de verre, un lieu unique au monde
The Glass Chapel (1930) is a truly unique place in the world.
It is the last witness to the industrial glassmaking past of the village of Fauquez.
In the golden age (1925/1935), more than 1,000 workers worked at the Verreries de Fauquez where Marbrite, a mass-coloured and opaque glass, was invented (1917).
This particular glass was exported all over the world.
The Glass Chapel served both as a place of worship and as a showroom for potential customers of the Verreries de Fauquez.
Beautifully restored, The Glass Chapel is today an extraordinary place where you can spend a moment out of time!
It houses a small museum where around 300 pieces of the Verreries de Fauquez production are exhibited.
The Glass Chapel can be booked for a minimum of 2 nights and can accommodate 2 to 6 people.
So you can book it for a romantic night, for a cozy getaway with friends or for a unique family experience.
The Chapel has three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with a bunk bed. It also has a kitchen equipped with a fridge/freezer, stove, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. A cozy living room welcomes you around the wood-burning stove.
A television (with your Netflix / Disney / Amazon or other subscription) and a very spacious dining area.
There is 1 bathroom with a shower and a bathtub and a second shower room with a sink and toilet. After a day of hiking or cycling, you can relax in the garden.
There is a barbecue on the very pleasant terrace.
Free Wi-Fi and private parking.
The large and wonderful room is available during the summer and accommodates your bikes in complete safety.
Nearby, nature is omnipresent, and the canals invite you to walk or cycle. There is much to see in this tranquil region, sheltered from mass tourism, yet only 30 km from Brussels.
Things to see in the surrounding area...
The Ronquières inclined plane, the old elevators of Strépy Bracquegnies, the Stépy Thieu elevator, Waterloo and its battlefield, Pairi Daiza, the cities of Mons, Namur, Charleroi, Nivelles, the ruins of Villers la Ville, the Hergé museum, the Folon Foundation, the Mariemont Museums, the bike rides along the canals, without forgetting Brussels ... and other interesting things that I can recommend to you.
